INFORMATION and FAQs

What do I do when a death occurs?

If the deceased is in a hospital or nursing home facility, just make the staff aware of your funeral home of choice. They will take care of contacting the funeral home and the funeral home will then contact you letting them know that you have been contacted and will set up a meeting time for the arrangement conference.

If the deceased is at home under the care of hospice, the hospice nurse will come to pronounce death and he/she will contact the funeral home. Upon the funeral home's arrival to your home, necessary information will be taken and a meeting time will be set up for the arrangement conference.

If the deceased dies at home, not under the care of hospice or anywhere else where they are not under a doctor's care, notify EMS or the police and they will notify the medical examiner. If he clears the deceased to be released, then the funeral home will come to the place of death and will contact you, the family. The medical examiner, however, may find it necessary to examine the deceased (perhaps performing an autopsy) and he will notify the funeral home and they will go there to receive the body.

What do I bring to the funeral home for the arrangement conference?
